Little MAC RUBY WOO Retro Matte Lipstick Review

Posted by

Ruby Woo is a cult name in the world of women’s fashion.Ruby Woo, the iconic red lipstick from the famous international brand MAC,is their single most selling product. When they introduced the travel size pack for some of their best selling items,I just lapped  it up as soon as I got to visit to the MAC store.

MAC Ruby Woo is a  blue toned cool matte red

Previously even Revlon had the mini sizes which I so loved .The great thing about Mini lipsticks  is that you can easily slip more than one in a small purse and also the smaller size and lesser product means they would not expire before you finish the whole product or get  bored of the same colour.

Coming to the review :

PRICE – Rs 900/- for 1.8 grams. It is the same trademark black oval bullet with Mac written on it just like the full size version.

PROS of Little MAC RUBY WOO Retro Matte Lipstick

LONG  wearing formula – It easily lasts 4 hours without peeling or patchiness but with eating and drinking, there is slight fading .

MATTE finish – Since I have full lips, I prefer matte formulae, also non glossy ones look more appropriate for office wear (Yes, some ladies do wear red to the office !).So matte is my favourite finish.

INTENSE colour payoff – One good swipe of the wand gives good colour and two is almost more than enough for prolonged wear.

GREAT coverage, HIDES pigmentation – The colour shows off quite well even on my pigmented lips unlike many reds that show a different tone on pigmented lips  or do not cover the pigmentation well .

Colour swatch in two swipes of little  MAC Ruby woo

Great for all Skin TONES – Ruby Woo is a neutral blue toned cool red that does justice to both warm and cool complexions (yellow and pink undertones ).

Good for Occasional wear – This small size is great if you want to use a this bold red shade seldom like me.

The PRICE – The price and the fact that I shall be using this less often kept me away from it so long, but actually this mini version is more pocket friendly as it costs Rs 900/-  compared to the full size Rs 2200/- one.

Its CUTE !!
We women have a thing for stuff that come in small sizes ( maybe that’s why we love babies and puppies ) so I mostly find myself hoarding up on tiny, cute things.

CONS of Little MAC RUBY WOO Retro Matte Lipstick

DRYNESS – The long wearing formula is quite drying like most matte lipsticks and the MAC Sales Assistant recommends to exfoliate and moisturise the lips(or use MAC Prep and Prime Lip primer before the lipstick) to ensure a smooth application and no feathering (settling in between the lip lines) later as the lipstick becomes dry.

POCKET PINCHING  – Compared to some other brands like Lakme, Maybelline or Faces , this mini version is still more costly than the full size version of some other brands .

SIZE MATTERS – Since it is so tiny, getting a good grip can be a problem specially because the bullet is so tiny. You might need to use a lip brush to apply it and also to utilize the complete product. If you are a die hard lipstick fan unlike me then you will need a refill soon.

Thankfully MAC has a refill policy – for every six empty packs returned you can get a brand new product for free !
So save the empties !

This is how tiny the Little MAC RUBY WOO is-it fits right into my palm

FINAL VERDICT – I rate it a 4/5.

I am very happy with this product – Great colour, coverage and colour pay off but its does make my lips dry and burns a hole in the pocket.

But that’s not stopping me and neither should it stop you because it is such a gorgeous colour.
So go ahead Girls and paint the town Red or should I say paint the town “RUBY RED”!
