The movie Talvar has been directed by Meghna Gulzar and I commend her for handling such a sensational and sensitive case with such dexterity .This movie is based on (despite the disclaimer ) the sensational Arushi Talwar noida double murder case in 2008 .
This case affected me a lot because Arushi Talwar was a normal young 14 year old girl , lively and happy . An only child whose parents had been accused of her murder .The story in short is of a dentist couple Dr. Ramesh Tandon (Neeraj Kabi ) and his wife Dr. Nutan Tandon (Konkana Sen Sharma )and their only daughter Shruti ,who is found dead with her throat slit in her bedroom and how the case evolves.
Irrfan Khan plays CDI sleuth Ashwin Kumar with perfection .Tabu plays a small role as his estranged wife .
Sohum shah in the role of Irfaan’s assistant is also impressive .The cast and direction was superb , not a slack moment in the movie .
The movie also highlights the massive bungling by the U.P. police which rendered the whole case weak .
The music direction by Vishal Bhardwaj is commendable .
Some fresh facts have emerged in the movie and I am sure there will be a strong feeling that the case needs to be re-opened .
FINAL VERDICT – I rate it a 4.9 /5 . A must watch movie !
