Parsi food is a combination of Gujarati and Iranian cuisines and Rustom’s is an iconic place well known for serving the best Parsi food in Delhi. I visited it recently and here is a review of my experience here.
Location – Near Maulana Azad Medical College Campus, Delhi Parsi Anjuman, LNJP Colony,
Bahadur Shah Zafar Road, ITO, New Delhi
Parking – Free parking is available inside the compound of the Parsi Anjuman .
Entry fee – If you could call it that, you pay Rs 20/- per person which is used to maintain the property.
Ambiance
The ambience is one of the most charming things about this place that serves the best Parsi food in Delhi. It has retained its old world charm with its plain but comfortable woven wood chairs, carpets, thick white curtains and hanging glass ceiling lights .You are ushered in warmly and you get the feeling of being in the home of your Parsi friend.
The Menu – They have an extensive menu consisting of regular Mumbai street foods like Vada pao, Golgappe (Pani puri ),Sev puri, Bhel puri, Dahi vatata puri , Kutchi dabeli , Ragda paittice and even a Mutton dahi vada !! Imagine that !
I know you are drooling already !!
What I ordered at Rustom’s ( the place that serves the best Parsi food in Delhi)
Starters
I started with one of their famous lemonades – the Mint lemonade. Even though, It had a nice green colour and a popping taste , it wasn’t minty enough for me.
A nice surprise was the complimentary side of Sabu dana crisps and chutney to go with the lemonade.
Main course
Next, upon the recommendation of our attendant, I opted for A Parsi Veg Thali. Of course ,this veg thali took about 15 minutes to arrive while I leisurely finished my lemonade.
The Parsi Veg Thali at Rustom’s, is a great option if you wish to sample the best Parsi food in Delhi.
The Rustom’s Veg Parsi thali had the following items :
1 Veg Dhansak ( a spicy curry with vegetables )
1 Parsi Dal
2 pieces of Makkai nu Pattice ( Corn patties – Yumm!)
2 Parsi Rotli ( thin chapatis)
Sarka nu Kachumbar ( thinly sliced onions , cucumbers etc. in a vinegar dressing)
Pickle
Chutney
You can pair it with Mint Chhaas on the menu, if you wish
This was a very satisfying thali and had me convinced about this place being the one that serves the best Parsi food in Delhi.
Further , after wiping clean my thali, I just could not resist the charm of having the famous brun maska ( lavishly buttered bread pieces ) with Parsi Chai ( a spicy tea ).
Desserts
For dessert I kept oscillating between the Bhappa Doi Cheesecake and the caramel custard but then settled on the custard ( this has egg by the way). The caramel custard was silky soft but the caramel was just a bit too sweet for me and I could not finish this dish.
In the end, I had a cappuccino which was quite bracing after that lavish meal.
To sum it up , Rustom’s , a well known place for the bets Parsi food in Delhi , did not let me down with its typical homely Parsi ambience, authentic and quality Parsi food and superior service that was unobtrusive to the point of bordering on Laissez -Faire !
Price – A Veg meal for two would cost you upwards of INR 2000/-

FINAL VERDICT on Rustom’s
Rustom’s definitely lives up to its name of being the best place for Parsi food in Delhi, their service and food is exceptional with attention to detail and the happiness of the guest.
On the flop side I found the portion sizes to be smaller than expected and I missed having fresh vegetables and fruits on the menu.
I still need to try so much more from their menu so I shall be going back soon.
What about you – have you tried Parsi food ?
