So today I bring to you my latest wine review of a lovely wine, that can be enjoyed with your friends and family. The wine that I will be reviewing today is Lindeman’s Premier Selection Shiraz Cabernet of 2017 vintage
Lindeman’s wineries were established in 1843 by Dr. Henry Lindeman , in Australia. These wines have become quite popular and have been winning awards worldwide.
This red wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Cabernet Sauvignon – Syrah blended wines are a particular specialty of Australia, where Shiraz is known as Syrah. The Australians have perfected the art of blending these two grapes to give us some really delightful wines. Incidentally this particular blend of Cabernet and Shiraz is also much in demand and a best seller blend in India.
Cabernet Sauvignon with its full-bodied, complex, tannic fruit forward taste is the perfect companion to the very dark red, full bodied albeit smooth Syrah. The marriage of these two red grape varietals makes for a happy pair that gets better with age, so you may stock your bottles for up to two years or more and be assured of a more mature and rich flavor.

Style – Medium bodied Dry Red Wine
Colour – A beautiful, rich. enticing ,ruby-red hue
Nose – The wine opens with a delightful bouquet of dark fruits and bright berries – blackberries, plums with hints of spicy pepper , holding the promise of something delicious to come.
Palate – No surprises here , it has the fruity and smooth elegance of the Shiraz and the bold assertiveness of Cabernet Sauvignon.
On the first sip, there is lot of fresh bright berries mingling with ripe and jammy flavours of dark fruit, both at the same time. One gets lots of plums, blackberries, strawberries here and a bit of heat from the spicy peppers , clove and cinnamon too which make it suitably complex and lovely to sip.
This particular red wine veers more onto on the Shiraz component which makes it a smooth and elegant medium bodied red wine with complex flavors and medium acidity .
The tannins make their presence felt but not overtly so.
The oaky notes at the end are well perceived and give a smooth and rounded finish to the wine.
Finish – It leaves a juicy finish but short lived which sadly left me a bit disappointed, the enjoyment and thrill of the first sip lasts only till that. I longed for a deeper impression.
Food Pairing
As with all red wines, this one too is enjoyed best when slightly chilled.
It pairs well with beef, lamb , poultry and tomato based dishes and in vegetarian food I would say, spicy potatoes , hard and salty aged cheeses like Gruyere , Cheddar and Gouda that have a distinct flavour which is offset well by the bold and fruity notes of this wine.
In Indian and Vegan foods , I would say it goes well with potatoes like zeera aloo , Tandoori dishes and Dal Makhani .
